Aspinall played his part in another epic contest, leading at one stage and coming from down to lead , only for Van den Bergh to finish the stronger and claim the game's final two legs.
I lost the first three sessions and went down , but I kept digging in and believing in myself. It's a lesson for me but this week is going very well and I'm playing strong.
Physically and mentally I feel drained, I can be so much better. Van den Bergh opened the tie with six perfect darts but lost the first leg and trailed before eight successive breaks of throw left Aspinall up.
The Belgian held throw to level, but Aspinall finished double ten, 74 to break and double eight as he opened up a three-leg gap, which he retained at and despite Van den Bergh again throwing six perfect darts in one leg.
The Belgian finished 82, and double four as he hit back to level at all, and added another three straight legs as he moved into a lead.
Aspinall, though, levelled as he punished four missed doubles from the two-time World Youth Champion, and fired in tops for a third straight leg as he moved up.
Van den Bergh landed a and posted double 16 to send the game into a deciding leg, in which Aspinall was left on 36 after landing a only to see his rival pin double 18 for the win.

Van Gerwen had looked to be advancing into the last four for the fifth straight year when he opened up a three-leg advantage midway through the contest, defying a spectacular display of maximum hitting from The Wizard to stay in front.
But Whitlock has been inspired against MVG of late, and he was again as he hauled himself back into the contest at before seeing Van Gerwen roll back the years with a timely finish for a lead that looked to have ended the Aussie's challenge.
However, Van Gerwen failed to find another dart at double, missing three to win , and then missing five to win the decider where Whitlock pounced to conjure a victory that leaves him in prime position to add another major to his European Championship.
Whitlock will face tournament debutant De Sousa as he looks to back up his win over MVG, who will be left to reflect on missed chances that leave him still with just one televised title to his name this season - the UK Open in March.
Jose De Sousa continued his dream debut at the Grand Slam with a thrilling victory over Michael Smith to advance to a semi-final showdown with Whitlock.
In the biggest game of his career, De Sousa started fast, withstood a fierce comeback and then held his nerve to leave Smith frustrated and still waiting for a maiden televised title, while the dream remains alive for 'The Special One'.
The pair fired in 22 maximums and missed 64 darts at double in a see-saw contest which kicked off Sunday's quarter-finals, but missed darts from Smith in the final two legs allowed De Sousa to clinch the biggest win of his career so far.
The Portuguese thrower had never featured in a contest over this distance, but, aided by Smith's early struggles on the doubles and more surprisingly the count, he forged into an lead to stand halfway towards the finish line.
Having taken until the 10th leg to find his first maximum, Smith put his foot down and a barrage of s launched his comeback with a blistering five-leg burst which included two legs that saw him twice go six darts of the way to a nine-dart finish.
Smith hit the front for the first time at when he took the 19th leg against the De Sousa throw, but to De Sousa's credit he refused to wilt and broke back himself.
When the pair split the next eight legs, including the first three-figure finish of the match landed by Smith, it was effectively a best-of-three contest and when Smith missed chances, The Special One wrapped up a memorable win.
Dimitri Van den Bergh continued his winning run against Nathan Aspinall but only after a last-leg decider handed him a date with James Wade in the last four.
Wade is a compelling character but his nonchalant demeanour appears to be serving him well in Coventry.
He advanced through Group F with maximum points and posted averages of 98 and in recording impressive wins over Ian White and Damon Heta.
Throughout the last decade, Wade has forged a reputation for cleaning up at wide-open tournaments, when Phil Taylor and Van Gerwen had fallen by the wayside, and he may feel he is poised to add another title to his illustrious haul.
The man nicknamed 'The Dream Maker' could not have wished for a better week at the Ricoh Arena, as he targets a second major TV title in the space of five months.
He has performed with the poise of a champion, illustrated by the fact he has been installed as the new tournament favourite.
Van den Bergh has been dubbed a 'future world champion' since emerging on to the scene and he demonstrated his burgeoning potential earlier this year, although his performances at this year's Grand Slam have usurped his Matchplay heroics.
The diminutive Belgian stormed through to the quarter-finals having conceded just six legs, boasting a tournament average of whilst also twice missing double 12 for a nine-darter.
He was forced to display all his battling qualities in overcoming world No 6 Nathan Aspinall in a last-leg thriller to reach the semi-finals, but if he can reproduce his form from earlier in the week, Van den Bergh will take some stopping.

At the World Matchplay , Whitlock recorded wins over Kevin Painter , Raymond van Barneveld and James Wade after being 5—0 down in the latter two to reach the semi-finals of the event for the second time, with Whitlock stating he was playing his best darts in five years.
Both players missed four match darts, but it was Whitlock who would progress to his first quarter in 18 months, where he lost 10—7 to Adrian Lewis.
Whitlock missed two darts to beat Ricky Evans 3—0 in the first round of the World Championship and went on to lose six successive legs to be pegged back to 2—2.
Evans took out a finish to win the deciding set by six legs to four and condemn Whitlock to a second successive first round exit in the event.
He then overcame Justin Pipe and Steve West both 6—1 and recovered from 3—0 down against Ronny Huybrechts in the final to win 6—5. It was Whitlock's first title in over two years and he said afterwards that it was just the start of him getting back to his best.
In the deciding set of his second round match with Alan Norris at the World Grand Prix , Whitlock was 2—1 down in legs, before hitting a , a checkout, followed by a darter to end the match with 16 perfect darts.
